Upoznajmo zimske klasike – Montgomery kaput

MONTGOMERY kaput – MONTY, DUFFLE, DUFFEL

Graffiti Art- Contemporary art equalized as crime and vandalism

Banksy's graffiti work of art
Banksy’s graffiti work of art

There are some graffiti art festivals going on and finalizing these days. You can check “Grafiti na gradele” (Croatia). After visiting one, found my favorite “piece of graffiti art” standing in my room.  It was already prepared (not consciously)  as a part of style combination for next shooting.  Finally, at the end of the day, opened some news pages and saw it.  Banksys’ new exhibition happening in London – absolutely stranded by Graffiti today…

Banksy

Probably the World most intrigue and famous graffiti artist. He was born in  Bristol, UK. His career started as a member of one Bristol’s graffiti crew in early 90’s and soon becomes distinctive member forming Bristol underground scene.

He is socially engaged and critically reviewing politics and society scene through his art. The main motive in his artwork is usually anti-war, anti-capitalism or anti-establishment message.

In his work, he is mostly using stencil technique.  He explained, it is faster and is exactly what he needed often running from the police.

Except for his artwork, he becomes “famous” for hiding his identity and insisting on keeping his anonymous status.  It led to many story-constructing around his identity. The secrecy is needed as graffiti art is considered more as crime and vandalism than art.

Graffiti as the street voice

Considering graffiti art as a voice of middle class or underclass society he often points out the underclass problems, political issues, and poor economic status.

Banksy’s graffiti art have the voice of the oppressed around the world.  He stands out for war victims, animals rights, the victims of sexual abuses, etc. Pointing out the oppression and injustice of establishments. He criticizes and satirizes the consumerism. Greed. The artificial creation of poverty.  Fascism. Imperialism and other social illnesses.
Even though Banksy’s work as an artist is highly valuable and recognized. His artworks are sold for highly respectable amounts and won several prizes for his work. Banksy, even, got the award for Art’s Greatest living Briton.  Which he did not, actually, collect in order to keep his identity hidden. He was, also, nominated for Oscar in the category for the best Documentary movie in 2010.

There’s a pretty big Banksy exhibition coming to London in July. But if you will not be able to visit  Lazinc Gallery in period Jul 12-Aug 25 for any reasons, you can calm your hunger for street art watching the movie he directed ( Exit Through the Gift Shop) or you can see  how he arranged his Hotel in Bethlehem.

What do I love about Banksy?

I love his socially engaged artworks. Stencil technique. Subversive messages. Consciousness in approach to contemporary art and criticism in it. Even love the fuss about his identity.  There is the theory that his real name is Robert Del Naja. World famous Massive Atack’s frontman. This one is my favorite theory of Banksys’ identity. You dig and find out what’s yours.

The most precious Banksy’s work for me is this one above. I have it printed on a tee. One of my favorite tee’s.

Oldie but goldie- the souvenir from London trip. Thanks, D.

Stay tuned for Banksy inspired outfits and some stencils I found in this town.  Coming soon.

Sculptured art on my way one year later – meet Skopje

Last year I traveled to Prague and found quite interesting sculptured art made by David Cerny.  This year I took the trip to Macedonian capital city. Skopje is known by thousands of sculptures and monumental architecture.

Let’s check what sculptured and sacral architecture art I met on my travel to Zagreb – Osijek – Skopje -Belgrade – Linz – Vienna.

OSIJEK, CROATIA

Franjo Krežma, statue in Osijek.

Franjo Krežma was compositor and violin virtuous.  Sculptor: Vanja Radauš (1967.)

After the restoration, the sculpture is equipped with the contemporary audio system playing  Krežma’s music.

Among the most famous sculptures in Osijek are August Cesarac, known as “City Walker”,  afterwar installation The Tank and Fićo, People ( known as Group of Citizens), Pablo Picasso statue and Miroslav Krleža.

Every mentioned sculpture is work of Croatian artists glorifying other important historical personalities or moments.  Interesting fact about the sculpture made by Ivan Sabolić says that this is the only sculpture presenting Pablo Picasso standing out of painters native country, Spain.

SKOPJE, REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

Contemporary legend says there are more sculptures in Skopje than alive citizens.

Found the buddy on the “Artists bridge” but have to move on…

Soon I am flying to Austria. Tend to add some more photos from Macedonia.

Also, check  Instagram because this is not even nearly all from the city of sculptors. Skoplje. How do you like it?

It`s October; beer time. Meet Daphne Guinness

The honorable Guinness

Due to October premise in Europe – October fest and similar beer festivals around the continent- Guinness heiress and outstanding fashion figure crossed my mind. Guinness?Daphne Guinness!

Daphne Guinness - Wizard
Daphne Guinness – Wizard

Considering her self an artist. She is designers muse. Couture collector. A singer.  A fashion designer. She is Daphne Guinness –  the eccentric heiress of Guinness brewery.  A remarkable figure, an eternal inspiration for fashion.

The friend and the muse of the entire Industry. The honorable Daphne, Guinness heiress has a  real job in the fashion business, even though, she needs no job at all. And by her nature, this job is peculiar as heiress her self.  To inspire.

From the all over the world fashionistas point of view, she is an outstanding individual with an impeccable sense of fashion. Walking Fashion Museum itself, due to her well-known designers’ wardrobe collection. Yet, she is, indeed, walking in eccentric personalized shoes.

Daphne Guinness is beloved by the fashion industry. Equally. designers, editors, photographers… the World of Fashion simply deeply loves her tiny figure. Her “Cruella” hairstyle. Hand armor and mask she frequently wears to cover shy little Daphe from the “real world” and “real people” that she never really met while living in that royalty art surrounded world of hers.

Vetements “Post Soviet Fashion” is the biggest trend

Demna Gvasalia – artistic director of Balenciaga and Vetements collective head designer is one of those who shape the world of fashion.

Demna Gvasalia Vetements / Balenciaga
David Sims photo

If you do have any interest, at all, in fashion business you already know everything about Balenciaga. And if your interest is real, you know something about Demna Gvasalia, too.  At least you know that Demna is young Greogian designer shaping the world of fashion in multiple ways. Bringing some new disorder in the fashion world, confronting old/new systems in fashion.

He is the art director of Balenciaga and head designer in  Vetements collective at the same time.

now-now; if you haven’t heard about Vetements brand these years… rookie boy you need to learn about fashion business a lot.  As they rule street fashion for years. They collaborate with everyone in fashion ( Louis Vuitton, Manolo Blahnik,  Reebok, Champion, T. Hilfiger  Levis,…). They are shaping street fashion, but their influence is not only on streets they hit big on the fashion stage. Vetements are fashion phenomena of the moment. Fashion itself.

Balenciaga is one of the most prestigious houses in the fashion history.  Opposite to that, Vetements collective comparing to Balenciaga heritage is still newborn on fashion stage.

Formed of young designers highly influenced by Belgian and Japnese designers (Margiela, Dries Van Noten,  Rei Kawakubo,…). As the result,  the group preserve aesthetic of deconstruction and destroy. Balenciaga represents an old system that Vetement collective is rejecting and destroying in their aesthetic. The paradox in this situation is head designer of Vetement and art director of Balenciaga house is the same person – Demna.

Post Soviet Fashion

Esthetic of  Vetements  is known as “post-Soviet fashion”. The synonym is   “Gopnik style” which includes everything the sense of good style and proportion considers as the highly unfashionable mixture.

Demna Gvasalia Vetements
Have you noticed socks becoming very visible, “sock-shoes” or trainers and heels – it`s Demna`s idea

And yet, it’s everywhere: covering  Vogue or Harpers Bazaar, worn by street style stars like Chiara Ferragni, Jenner and Miroslava Duma, Rihanna and Kanya West. Stocked everywhere from Vogue to Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom.

Vetements fans

Vetements collective is formed of former Belgian students from Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The school already has a reputation for educating avant-garde designers. Therefore, the world knows them as Antwerp Six group. The bespoken designer collective was highly influential in earlier fashion revolution in the last decades of the 20th century.
Besides that, Vetements aesthetics is highly influenced by designers origin – former Soviet countries. Deconstructivism philosophy which they embrace in their school.

The importance of this young collective in the World of fashion is yet to discover.  In 2016 they form a trend, becoming a cult, known as “Post Soviet fashion” and stands for;
anticapitalism, deconstruction (pattern, textiles, fashion system itself), anti-glam , not-snobbish royalty philosophy, redesign, 90`s low budget Eastern fashion, tracksuit bottoms, trainers, oversize hoodies, socks, comfortable sports shoes, fake fur, huge logos.

Sportswear luxe is a newly developing trend on the high street and designer fashion scene. Therefore we all are witnessing the revival of 90-s sports brand we already forgot.

For the latest trends seak inspiration in  (Gopniks) East European style from early 90`s. Therefore,  Gopniks represents a subculture scene we can find in every society. It associates working-class youth. Their poor-style becomes part of high couture,  red carpets, and most influential street stylers.
