Borough, Bourg or in other words and languages known as Borgo, Burgz, Burg, etc. is a fortified Medieval architectural complex with special characteristics. Bourg is usually mistaken with castles.
Bourg Medved known also as Medvedgrad is the perfect Bourg with all architectural characteristics one should have.
This Medieval fortified building complex is made for living and defense. Situated on the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain, overwatches Croatian capital city, Zagreb. On demand of Catholic priests, it was built between 1249 – 1254. The primal function is to protect the city ( mostly themselves).
During the time Medved owners and inhabitants were all kinds of notable figures from the Catholic Church as well as Hungarian and Croatian nobility.
The last owners of the Bourg were Gregoryanetz family in the 16th century. An earthquake heavily damaged the Bourg Medved after that.
There are many legends and stories about Medved’s inhabitants. Certainly the most intriguing are the stories about Black Queen; Barbara Celjska – extremely beautiful, evil and promiscuous
The symbolism of the cravat in today’s world is multiple and probably well known but what do you know about its origins? Do you know the cravat homeland and history?
The story says that it originates from a French Royal Regent back in 17. century. Even though I said French actually it was a foreign regent established in 1664. year originally from Croatia (employed by France for 30- year war purposes ).
This army soon becomes very noticeable by war accomplishments but also by a striking fashion statement shawl around the neck.
The red shawl becomes noticeable as a symbol of the Croat regent during the war and the regent simply become known as “Royal Cravates”.
After that war, during the time, the “red shawl” evolves into a garment we all today know as a CRAVAT.
There are some graffiti art festivals going on and finalizing these days. You can check “Grafiti na gradele” (Croatia). After visiting one, found my favorite “piece of graffiti art” standing in my room. It was already prepared (not consciously) as a part of style combination for next shooting. Finally, at the end of the day, opened some news pages and saw it. Banksys’ new exhibition happening in London – absolutely stranded by Graffiti today…
Last year I traveled to Prague and found quite interesting sculptured art made by David Cerny. This year I took the trip to Macedonian capital city. Skopje is known by thousands of sculptures and monumental architecture.
Let’s check what sculptured and sacral architecture art I met on my travel to Zagreb – Osijek – Skopje -Belgrade – Linz – Vienna.
